Duolingo hacks for finishing in the Top 3 and some real lessons
I’m embarrassed to speak only one language. After reading a Medium post about regrets, I’m doing something to avoid one: learning Spanish. Like taking anti-anxiety meds, as soon as I started, I learned most of my pals are on a language app, too! Similarly, we aren’t talking about it — as if it’s shameful. Let’s help one another win! Learning is the main goal, of course, but we can place in the top by playing strategically. Scroll to the bottom for my hacks; read on for my surprise lesson.
Disclaimer: This is not a paid ad for Duolingo. There are other language platforms that may treat their employees better — research it! Duolingo laid off a portion of its translating contractors in January and are using the remaining to touch up AI translations. Disappointing. That may account for the heavy mention of apples on Duolingo. Are apples a big part of the Spanish-language experience or just an AI glitch? Yo no sé.
